May 2015

Hello 2016-ers!

We’re in the home stretch!  There’s about a week until classes end, you’re finishing up assignments, and preparing your study outlines for your final exams.  In a few weeks, you’ll be done for the year.  This is probably not going to be a popular topic right now, but I would like to posit the notion that this is the best time to think about your senior year.

I say that for a number of reasons:  a) you can let the thought percolate over your first few days of summer veg-ing out, b) the end of the school year is the perfect time to remember the things you would like to do better/differently (or even avoid) next year, and c) you have the summer to start putting a few things in place.

I don’t have specific advice to give, I only want you to consider:  what do you want your senior year to look like?  Are you picturing fun classes that you’re only now having the time to take?  Are you gutting through those last major or common curriculum courses?  Are you cementing the friendships that you’ve made over the past few years so that they can be the foundation of the relationships that will get you through your first few adult-on-you-own years?

Daydream and plan this summer.  Daydream and plan for your senior—your last—year at Trinity.

Good luck with finals, papers, presentations and happy summer!

- THREE DOWN & ONE TO GO -

Hello, Class of 2016!  In my last letter to you, I wrote about balancing fun and future and asked you to think about the fun things you did during the last three years and what you want to accomplish during your senior year.  I hope you gave some thought to that and look forward to hearing your stories.

This time next year, I will be writing my final letter to you because around May 14, 2016 you will no longer be students.  From that time forward, you will be known as graduates and the newest Trinity alumni.  Finals are just around the corner on May 6 - 12.  I hope you have already applied for a summer job or internship.  It is a great opportunity to earn some money and get some work experience.  If you are lucky enough to actually have a summer vacation, enjoy it.

The commencement ceremony is on May 16.  Commencement may be the last time you see some of your Trinity friends.  After graduation, they will move on with their lives.  Have you started to think about your graduation?  It is not that far off.

Let me share some thoughts with you as this school year ends and you get ready for the fall semester...MORE>>>

April 2015

Hello, 2016-ers!

OMG, I can hardly believe that we are nearing the end of our third year together and you are preparing for the fall semester registration of your final year. As you look at the schedule that is beginning to form, be vigilant about checking your Degree Audit (which you can find if you select “Evaluate Program” from the drop-down menu on TigerPaws) to make sure that you are completing the requirements both for your major and for the Common Curriculum. While your faculty advisor is there to help you with the ins-and-outs of the Trinity Curriculum, ultimately (and officially), YOU are the final arbiter of how well you are fulfilling your requirements. I can’t imagine a more miserable feeling than to be MORE >>

!!! FIESTA !!!

Welcome back from Spring Break! Maybe you went to the beach at South Padre Island or Port Aransas or went snow skiing in New Mexico, Colorado or Idaho. Maybe you went home to be with family or friends. Maybe you just stayed here and chilled. Maybe you spent time with that special someone or found that special someone. Good memories. Whatever you did, I hope you had a great time.

Now that your third year is almost over, it is time to balance fun and future. Looking back, think about how much fun you had during the past three years and what you accomplished. Think about the fun you will have next year. What do you see in your future? What do you want to accomplish during your senior year? What do you need to do that? What will be your motivation? Wow, did March even happen? It must have because we had Spring Break, midterms, the start of March Madness… it’s definitely been a whirlwind of a month, and a lot more is yet to come.

Hopefully you all had a chance to stop by the apartment fair last week to start thinking about what you’re going to do next year when your three year residency requirement is up! Fear not if you haven’t found the right fit off Trinity’s campus because March 30th thru April 2nd will be room reservation! Take a gander at your reservation cheat sheet that was emailed last week to review the process.

*sidenote * Those North dorms are looking mighty fine. There are going to be some lucky seniors in those rooms!

Are you still not sure how you’re going to budget for next year? ResLife will be conducting another Game of Life program on the Esplanade on Wednesday April 8th from 10am to 1pm. Stop by to learn what your potential take-home salary would be, how much health insurance could cost, and if you’re willing to pay for Netflix every month. Oh yeah, and win PRIZES.

Before you know it, it will be Easter, and then it’s the final home stretch to summer vacation!

Don’t forget April’s First Friday Breakfast on April 10th! Get some FREE breakfast tacos and coffee in the Heidi Lounge from 8am to 10:30am.

- THIRD AND SHORT -

Welcome back! I hope you had a good time during Christmas break catching up on sleep, eating, doing laundry (or having Mom do it for you), and spending time with family and friends.

This time next year you will be about four months away from graduation. That seems a little far away right now, but, like the wording on your car mirror, "objects may be closer than they appear".  Graduation is fast approaching.  Are you ready for it?  What do you plan to do after graduation?
