NARROW YOUR FOCUS
Did
you attend Making Connections at the Skyline Room on September 18th? I hope that some of you did because it is a
great way to "get your feet wet", to start networking with a
purpose. I asked some students
"What do you see yourself doing after graduation?" Some said they were going to attend graduate
school, law school, medical school, etc.
It seems they have a goal for the long term. But others were not sure what they were going
to do - like a leaf that follows the flow of water, going wherever the current
may take it.
So,
where do you want to be after graduation?
What do you see yourself doing?
You probably don't know right now, and that's O.K. This 3rd year is when you need to
"narrow your focus". Ask
yourself questions. Lots of them. "What do I want to major in?" "What
do I think are my skills?"
"What do I like or don't like?" You may not have the answers right now, but
you can start the journey. more>>

Hello Juniors! Your first full month
of classes is wrapping up, and over here at ResLife we are gearing up some
Junior Year Experience programming! We know the transition from being in
Sophomore College to living in the upper class area can be an odd one, so keep
in mind that your fellow juniors are experiencing the same feelings. Living in
the upper class area is different in that your Hall Managers work to be a
resource for you, not necessarily a mentor. You will experience more autonomy,
less programs, but also will see more energy from us specifically in helping
you develop career aspirations and prepare for life after Trinity. This leads us to our first big program of the
semester! On Tuesday, October 28th... more>>

Career Services events follow a pattern
Have you
ever noticed a pattern to the events hosted by Career Services? Kudos to you,
if you have.
Events are
lined up to demonstrate the typical process a student takes to find an
internship or a full-time career position.
For
instance, Resumania, a power critique of your resume,
leads the pack this semester on October 1. It is followed by Interview Success on October 2, during which you’ll
learn the ins and outs of interviewing from professional recruiters (yes, even
for internships!). Then comes Professional Practice Interview Days from October 8-10, which is your
chance to practice in a mock interview and get instant feedback.
All these
events culminate in the Fall Career Fair on October 22, where your learning
from each of the previous workshops comes into play. You’ll be ready with a
polished resume in hand and you’ll know what to say to the recruiters at the
career fair based on whether you’re there to learn about the company or to
discover internship and job possibilities.
Allyship: Becoming Champions for Inclusion
Monday, Oct. 6 at 7:30 p.m. in
Laurie Auditorium
Hudson Taylor--an NCAA All-American, former team wrestling captain at the
University of Maryland, and founder of Athlete Ally--will share his journey of
becoming a straight ally for the LGBT community. This program is about
friendship, standing up for our friends, and celebrating the things we have in
common as people who care about fair treatment for everyone. Sponsored by the
Athletics Council, Greek Council, Trinity Diversity Connection, Residential
Life, and Counseling Services.
