February 2015

Hello 2016-ers!

Happy Spring Semester 2015!

As I look at the above, I am amazed to observe that we are just 1 ½ years away from your graduation.  How time has flown!  A number of you are settling into your newly declared major programs, while a few are still in the process of declaring (let’s get ‘er done by March, please, to assure no problems with your Fall registration in April!).

In light of that, I’d like to More >>

- THIRD AND SHORT -

Welcome back! I hope you had a good time during Christmas break catching up on sleep, eating, doing laundry (or having Mom do it for you), and spending time with family and friends.

This time next year you will be about four months away from graduation. That seems a little far away right now, but, like the wording on your car mirror, "objects may be closer than they appear".  Graduation is fast approaching.  Are you ready for it?  What do you plan to do after graduation?

I have mentioned in past newsletters about More >>

January has come and gone, and now it’s time to focus on the most important part of the spring semester… chocolate. Ok, definitely your academics and health come first, but don’t forget to indulge every once in a while. You’ll get a great opportunity to do just that at the Chocolate Festival on February 13th at 2:30pm on the Esplanade.

And that’s not the only food wonderland you can go to this semester. First Friday Breakfasts are back! Join us in the Heidi Lounge from 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. for free tacos for upper classmen. The first one is Friday February 6th.

Stay classy UC,

January 2015

Hello 2016-ers!

Happy New Year!  Here’s to a New Year, new beginnings, a new semester!

A number of you may have made New Year’s Resolutions, while just as many of you may have decided that such markers of the change of the calendar are not for you.  Regardless of your thinking on the matter, the beginning of the semester is a good time to take stock of your previous semester in terms of time management, study skills, priorities, etc.  What things worked really well for you last semester when it came to effective performance in your classes, organizations, and preparations?  How can you further enhance your utilization of those things?  What things really interfered with your study habits, note-taking, participation, research, etc?  How can you ‘ease’ them out of your daily life?

Sometimes the opportunity to improve your academic experience can come from something as simple as telling your ‘TV buddy’ that you’ll only hang out with her on Saturdays, rather than intermittently throughout the week (and let’s be honest—it’s more fun catching up on 5 episodes of How to Get Away With Murder in one fell swoop than waiting on tenterhooks from one week to the next, isn’t it?).  The change may be large or small, but this is the time to consider it and consider how you might implement it.

Good luck in your new semester!
