                     - THIRD AND SHORT -

Welcome back! I hope you had a good time during Christmas break catching up on sleep, eating, doing laundry (or having Mom do it for you), and spending time with family and friends.

This time next year you will be about four months away from graduation. That seems a little far away right now, but, like the wording on your car mirror, "objects may be closer than they appear".  Graduation is fast approaching.  Are you ready for it?  What do you plan to do after graduation?

I have mentioned in past newsletters about working through those times when you wonder if you will ever finish.  I talked about reaching the half-way point in a half marathon and the importance of the third quarter in a Spurs basketball game.  You begin with good intentions about finishing what you start, but sometimes you lose the motivation to keep going.  I work out at a local gym and always look forward to January. So many people show up in early January wanting to fulfill their New Year's resolution of losing weight, getting in shape, etc. This year it was hard to find a parking space during the first two weeks of January.  Starting the third week, more and more parking was available. What happened?  I think we know that answer to that.

Now, I am using a football analogy.  I am not a big sports fan.  Don't get me wrong, I enjoy watching different sports.  Sports teach the value of determination, persistence, and belief in yourself.  Right now, it is "third and short".  You don't need to get a few extra yards to get a first down.  But you do need to get through the next four short months to reach your fourth, final and senior year.  YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Here are some motivational quotes I hope you will take to heart.

“Your time is limited, don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma - which is living the result of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinion drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.” –Steve Jobs
“Don’t say you don’t have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Pasteur, Michelangelo, Mother Teresa, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson, and Albert Einstein.” –H. Jackson Brown Jr.
“If you don’t go after what you want, you’ll never have it. If you don’t ask, the answer is always no. If you don’t step forward, you’re always in the same place.” –Nora Roberts
“Believe in yourself and all that you are. Know that there is something inside you that is greater than any obstacle.” –Christian D. Larson
The Career Fair is Wednesday, February 4th, from 8:00 A.M. - 3:00 P.M.  It is a great opportunity to meet with representatives and recruiters of various employers.  You might get an internship or make a contact for a job after graduation.  Bring your resume, dress professionally, and network.

Trinity's Chocolate Festival is in February, so enjoy the wonders of chocolate.  The 2015 San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo runs from February 12th - March 1st.  Saddle up and enjoy the ride.

I look forward to being with you again.  Call me at (210) 771-0030 if you have questions or just need to talk.
