December 2012

Hello, 2016-ers!

OK, you’re in the home stretch!  I hope that you all had a restful, fun Thanksgiving Break.  I’m guessing that it was probably a little daunting to come back to the impending deadlines for papers, exams, presentations, etc.   I have a couple of words of wisdom to get you through the next few weeks: planning and sleep.  These are often the very things that you may not feel you have time for, but I suggest that they are the very things that will be most useful for you.  more>>

Dear Class of 2016:

During this season of lights and celebration, it is easy to feel the energy at Trinity and within the community!  It is impossible not to notice the ornaments, the wreaths, the music, and the crowds of people filled with the anticipation of reuniting with family and friends for a traditional holiday.  Beyond your pending papers and examinations, my hope is that you will soon and safely be reunited with your own loved ones, and able to share some exciting stories about your first semester at Trinity University!

Going home for the winter break can be stressful, especially for First-Years, for a variety of reasons that you may not have considered.  Check out this link for some excellent advice.

Surviving Exam Period
Exam period is coming, and Trinity professors write some tough exams!  Therefore, it is in your best interest to start preparing now.   First, make a list of all your remaining assignments and exams.   Second, break each task into manageable steps.  Third, estimate how many hours it will take you to accomplish each step for each item on your list.  Fourth, put the items on a calendar with your time estimates written next to them.  Now you can see how many hours of work are needed on the days leading up to each due date, so you can plan accordingly.  For more specific study skills, please visit Counseling Services’ self-help page.

Dear First-Year Students,
Check out the exciting events below that will be happening over Winter Break!  Winter Break Making Connections events happen annually all over the country in early January.  Hosted by Trinity Alumni Chapters, these events are special opportunities for students and alumni to come together, network, and build lasting, professional relationships.  You can find more information about these events and R.S.V.P. in TigerJobs. Even though you may have no idea where your career path is headed, you can benefit immensely from getting to know our alumni and hearing about their experiences.  So, mark your calendars! Finally, we’d like to remind you that our office will remain open December 1 – 21, so feel free to call for an appointment with a career advisor (we also meet with students via Skype!) at 210-999-8321.  We’ll be closed December 24 – January 1.   We wish you the best of luck on your final exams, and we look forward to your return next semester! more>>
