- THREE DOWN & ONE TO GO -

Hello, Class of 2016!  In my last letter to you, I wrote about balancing fun and future and asked you to think about the fun things you did during the last three years and what you want to accomplish during your senior year.  I hope you gave some thought to that and look forward to hearing your stories.

This time next year, I will be writing my final letter to you because around May 14, 2016 you will no longer be students.  From that time forward, you will be known as graduates and the newest Trinity alumni.  Finals are just around the corner on May 6 - 12.  I hope you have already applied for a summer job or internship.  It is a great opportunity to earn some money and get some work experience.  If you are lucky enough to actually have a summer vacation, enjoy it.

The commencement ceremony is on May 16.  Commencement may be the last time you see some of your Trinity friends.  After graduation, they will move on with their lives.  Have you started to think about your graduation?  It is not that far off.

Let me share some thoughts with you as this school year ends and you get ready for the fall semester.

 1.  If you plan on going to medical, dental or law school or some other graduate program, it is imperative that you have a high GPA.  Focus on the grades, but remember to keep an active social life.

    2.  Think about your future, but live in the present. Your senior year will go by faster than you think.  "Old"  people say "the older you get, the faster time flies".  You are not "old" - not by a long shot!  Just three years ago you were first-year students arriving on campus full of excitement and maybe a little fear.  Soon, you will be the oldest group of students on campus.  Think about who you were then and who you are now.  What do you see yourself doing after graduation?  Life after graduation should be more about the kind of lifestyle you want to live and not just about the type of job you think you want.

    3.  Savor your friendships and memories.  Some of my closest friends to this day are those I met in college.  Some of my best memories came from my time as a Trinity student.  If you come back to campus after you graduate - and I hope you do - those memories will come back and bring a smile to your face and a warmth in your heart.

I wish all of you a wonderful summer and look forward to seeing you at the New Student Move-In on August 20th.  Call me at (210) 771-0030 if you have questions or just need to talk.
