October 2013

Hello 2016-ers!

Prepare yourself for contradiction—this letter is about midterms and having fun.

Now for those of you who would never think to say those two words in the same sentence, bear with me a moment.  Part of this letter is about getting into a consistent study/homework schedule so that you are prepared for your assignments, exams, presentations, and class discussions without stressing yourself unduly.  The other part is ensuring that you have enough spiritual, physical, and emotional resources to balance your studies.  more>>

Dr. M
Class Marshal

Dear Class of 2016:

I am definitely not a technology guy.  I have a very good working knowledge of computers from my time in the military, but following retirement I find life is simpler (for me) with fewer electronic connections.

The reality is that I like to talk with people.  I like to read their faces when I have a conversation, or hear the tone of their voice when I’m speaking on the phone.  I like to see the sparkle in someone’s eye when they’re telling a joke, or note the raised brow when they’re registering concern for a friend.  Those of you who know me understand that I resist email, and that I really, really don’t like texting.  more>>
