I helped the first year students move
in. I have done this every year, except
for one. It is so much fun to be a part
of the excitement and to watch the faces of the students - some with a
"deer in the headlights" look - and their parents - a mixture of
sadness and delight that their student is now in college. Just two years ago, you were in the same
situation. I am sure I helped some of you move in.
Now, you are half-way through your
undergraduate program. Some of the
initial freshman excitement may be gone, but there is still your resolute goal
to graduate. Doing anything for four
years can be a challenge. It's like
running a marathon or half marathon. I
haven't run a marathon, but I have run several half marathons. You get about half-way through and start to
wonder if you can make it to the finish line. If you watch basketball,
especially if you are a Spurs fan (San Antonio Spurs, that is), you know how
important is the 3rd quarter. This is
the time when you really focus on your major and get really good grades. If you get the job done in your 3rd year,
your senior year won’t be so stressful.
YOU CAN DO IT!!!
Graduation is just two years away,
which may seem like a long time from now, but, believe me, it will be here
before you know it. This is also a great
time to begin looking for work after graduation and start networking. I recommend that you attend this year's
Making Connections on September 18th at the Skyline Room. It is a great opportunity to meet other
students and alumni. You may find open
doors to your future.
I welcome the opportunity to meet with
you in person. Call me at 210-771-0030
or send an e-mail to me at kpettit@satx.rr.com.
