Alumni Sponsor - February 2014

Dear Class of 2016:

One of my greatest hopes for each of you is that you learn the joy of giving!  There are any number of benevolent causes that will solicit your time, energy and money after you graduate from Trinity.  But I want to address the importance of establishing a habitual pattern of giving to your alma mater...Trinity University!

Every one of you understands the lifelong value of the friendships and the education you are receiving at this institution.  Whether Trinity is preparing you for graduate schooling, a corporate career, teaching or a profession, the derived benefits of your liberal arts training are limitless.  Your commitment to pursuing a degree indicates your understanding of this intrinsic value.

But only 13 percent of the total alumni population presently make an annual gift to Trinity...each year...every year.  These are not gifts tied to winning a raffle, a signed book, or a trip.  These are gifts freely given to support and develop YOUR education and the development of Trinity University.  These gifts represent a certain degree of sacrifice and selflessness.  With this in mind, I want the Class of 2016 to reflect these attributes and "pay it forward."

I recently initiated a fund through the Office of Development to challenge your class toward philanthropy.  It is named "The Class of 2016 Scholarship Fund," and you will be learning more about it from the Development Office in coming weeks.   I gave the seed monies for this fund to honor my wife, Ann, for her lifetime of charitable service.  But you will (and should) have your own reasons to give...you may be honoring your parents...a teacher...a friend..simply think of someone in your life that would want you to give selflessly and sacrificially and GIVE!  I believe in your ability to meet this challenge!

Hope the school year continues to treat you well.  Please don't hesitate to contact me if I can provide you with any assistance or community contacts!
